A allergy is an immune system response when the body reacts to the protein in a food/substance. Your immune system controls how your body defends itself. For instance, if you have an allergy to cow’s milk, your immune system identifies cow’s milk as an invader or allergen. Your immune system overreacts by producing antibodies called Immunoglobulin E (IgE). Antibodies travel to cells that release chemicals, causing an allergic reaction. Symptoms of an allergy include; wheezing, rashes, runny nose and most seriously anaphylaxis. Coeliac disease is different; this is when your own body attacks the lining of the bowel after ingesting the protein “gluten” and this is an autoimmune response.
A intolerance or sensitivity may not show up in medical allergy testing as there may not be an immune response to cause a change in blood markers. However, you may still experience symptoms when consuming certain foods, even if you aren’t allergic. These symptoms of intolerance and sensitivity can include headaches or migraines, gut pain, bloating, diarrhea, nausea, fatigue, skin conditions and irritability.
Common food intolerances and sensitivities include:
Your initial session would focus on your gut health, immunity, and specific food intolerance/sensitivity testing. The goal here would be to identify which exact foods you are currently intolerant to. We will determine whether to use Kinesiology to desensitise the body to the identified foods to allow you to continue to consume them without symptoms, or testing may indicate we need to temporarily remove those specific items from your diet for a period of time to allow your gut to heal. It may also be identified that additional nutritional support may be beneficial (e.g. pre/pro-biotics, anti-bacterial oils or herbs, liver cleanses, digestive enzymes etc). Sometimes food sensitivities are associated with psychological stress which we will also test and address during your session.
